Event Details

The LGiU and Bristol City Council are hosting a major one-day policy conference in Bristol, for the south-west and west midlands. The Localism Act – over to you brings together Local Government Minister Andrew Stunell, Cities Advisor Lord Shipley, with a range of local councillors and officers as well as senior officials from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Exploring what the localism legislation means for councils, the conference looks at the context for the policy reform and the ensuing challenges and opportunities that face councils, including General Power of Competence, LGRR (including business rates) and the Core Cities amendment.

Detailed sessions will focus on planning – including neighbourhood planning, community forums, and sub-regional collaboration – as well as community rights and the implications for local authorities in strategic planning and service delivery.

The conference will include Q&A opportunities and an opportunity to meet the Minister.
